Thunder Beach Bound

Thunder Beach Bound

This is my first Motorcycle and my first ride to Thunder Beach on my 2007 Honda VTX 1300r. My husband taught me to ride, knowing that I'm 5'3" and 125 lbs, he knew if I could master the skills in riding safely I would have the perfect bike. It handles great and has plenty of power. The low center of gravity makes for easy turning at slow speeds. The bike has not been lowered from the stock height and at 5'3" I am able to stay seated and flat foot the ground at stops. This bike is not too small for long rides and not too big for unsafe riding. Its perfect, I love my motorcycle.

VTX1300R on it's way
by: Dolly

I am moving up from a Honda VT1100C Shadow ACE Tourer to a Honda VTX1300R. I loved my Shadow, but the VTX is actually lower to the ground and lower center of gravity. I am 4"11 and this is my 4th bike...all Hondas. Husband is getting a VTX1800R, but he's a foot taller than I am! He's had HD's, Suzuki's, and Hondas and is happiest with a Honda. I love it when I see other women riding, especially us more "mature" types. Enjoy your ride and keep the shiny side up!

Picking Up the Easy Way
by: Anonymous

I took a course taught by a motorcycle policeman - the easiest way for getting the bike upright is to have it running and let the clutch out easy - the bike will bring itself back up with a minimum of effort. Just hold on and keep her steady!

Getting on my own has been the best thing I have ever did for myself. Squatty bodied 50 year old...lol

Uprighting Your Bike
by: Shannon

When I first got my Honda 1300 my husband laid it down and taught me the method for uprighting it. First if the kick stand side is up, you let out the kickstand, then you put your butt against the seat gripping the bike with both hands you rock it into the upright position. The tricky part is balancing the bike as you turn around. I practiced in the grass and on asphalt.

Attention vtx
by: Helen Wheels

Negative comments about what your sisters ride is not welcome on this site. As long as you are in the wind, that is what counts. The minute someone tells me what to ride because it is made somewhere in particular is the day I delete this website from my favs. Japanese motorcycles keep plenty of people employed in this country and around the world, probably a lot more than HD ever could.

I ride a Yamaha for my first bike.
by: Carolyn

I ride Yamaha V Star 250 right now, while my hubby rides Harley Sportster 883 for now. My hubby told me he likes the Yamaha better and he would be perfectly happy riding it. When we ride together I don't have problems catching up to HD.

Before we bought the 2 bikes, I did a lot of research online and talked to some people. What I learned is this: Japanese bikes are more reliable but cheaper than HD. Why we bought the HD. .....? The name and I want to be part of the legend.

For Judith, check this site about picking up your fallen motorcycle.

Love it!
by: Lynn - Florida

I ride the Yama VStar 1100 cruiser and at 5'1" tall can sit flat footed. Your Honda is a beauty and you look like you're having a great time. That's what it's all about.

Dropping the Bike
by: Judith

Ok, I gotta ask, can you lift the bike up if you lay it down. I don't necessarily mean while riding. I don't know what I am doing but when I take my bike out to the street, as I start to go it rolls back to the curb and then I don't have enough strength to get back out on street just to take off. If it is laying against the curb, I am afraid I will peel rubber off. I know this sounds silly, but I am at my wits end, and am thinking of selling the bike. Mine is a 600 Honda Shadow VLX. It will just slowly list to the left and down we go. Any advice?
