My 2005 Honda Shadow Sabre

My 2005 Honda Shadow Sabre

This is my first bike and I'm 54 years old...I got laid off in 2009 and used my severance money to buy it..It's an 1100cc..even though I paid for it, my husband is the chauffer..it's my Diva..reason for my new nickname "Biker Diva"...the part I like is the sound and the Vance/Hines pipes..after market..I love it..it's mine...and super shiny...my dream came true after all these years and wanting one..timing must have been perfect..I see so many women bikers and even though I don't ride personally, I'm still a woman on a bike !! (with a bike too).

Get a Spyder
by: Anonymous

Hey,

We are in the same age bracket - I suggest getting a Spyder so you can be in the driver seat!!

Awesome ride - nothing like it out there!

Cudos to you!
by: Rita

Congrats on buying your first bike! Enjoyed backseat for a few years and then got the bug! I too was 50 when I took the course...it gave me so much confidence & freedom to get out there...and my husband was very supportive. 1st bikes were Honda's 600, 750 & 1300, now I was ready...bought my Heritage Softtail in 07 and been loving it since....Can Am's are impressing me too...there will come a day! Till then, I love my HD Softtail! He has a Ultra Classic & Rocker, I've taken out, sweet! I can't wait to see what I do for my 60th BD.... Just go out and take the course, then go from there...have fun and learn to ride safe.

Congrats.

I too bought my bike and took the course after 50. I have an 883xl Custom Harley Sportster. I love it. I don't ride to work due to the traffic in the Houston area but I do ride on the weekends. My 3rd time on the Harley was a 6 hour trip. Very exhilarating. We now travel and trailer the bikes on vacations and ride wherever we go. Kudos to you for getting your motorcycle and enjoy the ride.

Ride your own ride...
by: Adrienne

...even if it's on the back seat! Congratulations on getting the bike, Cindy! Enjoy your ride your way - although taking a safety course is just as helpful for a passenger, you can always look at the materials online and get the same benefit. Ride safe!!

Take the class
by: MissT

It's a gorgeous bike and letting someone else deal with driving while you sit back and relax is great. But there's nothing like being in control of your own bike and both of you riding along as partners on the road. I took my course as my 50th birthday present to myself and bought my 2007 Shadow Aero 750VT about 2 weeks later. I "joy ride" just about every chance I get and commute when weather allows.

Safety Course Worth It
by: Sharon Eachus

I was very comfortable as a passenger also, I am 53 years old. My sister-n-law was afraid to ride on the back of her husband's bike so I thought if she took the Safety Rider Course it would help her to feel more comfortable. Of course I had to take it with her, otherwise she would not. We both took it, as did some of the guys we ride with as refresher course and to get their license the easy way lol. We both own Harley sportsters now and ride our own - she wouldn't buy a bike unless I did and she wanted her own. I have since graduated to a Softail and love riding as well as being a passenger. My health doesn't always allow me to ride so it's nice to have both options. I also look at it this way - the Rider Safety course helps one be a better passenger and if something were to happen (God forbid) to your husband while riding, you have the option of getting the bike back home. I look at it as there are many reasons to take the course - not just to ride your own and most people don't see it that way. I am now looking at getting a Spyder Cam Am so that I can ride more, but will still keep one of my bikes for those days I can ride two wheels! Hope this helps.

Com'on, take the class! =D
by: KutieKat

I'll be 50 in couple months and I bought my first bike, Yamaha V-star 950, after taking the class last fall. Been riding ALL the time since, I LOVE it! It's the thrill of throttling and maneuvering the curves that got me hooked! I did wonder why I didn't do it sooner but hey, now that my daughter is 18, I've never felt so free. =D

Do yourself a favor and take the class! ;)

Cheers!

Congratulations on purchasing your first bike! I also have a Shadow Sabre 1100 and I love it. I spent most of my life being a passenger, and when I got divorced I decided it was time to do something just for me. So I took the motorcycle safety course and got my endorsement. Bought the Sabre a week later and have been riding it now for two years. Enjoy your time on the bike!

Take the Riding Class
by: Velvet

You have made one big step, so just get out there and take the class and then you will be able to take Yourself places..nothing like wanting to go for a ride and you can just go get on and go.... don't have to wait for anyone to take you, you will Love it, there are a lot of Women that learn to ride later in life, and wish they had done it sooner, of course if you choose not to, that is up to you. Happy days are ahead for ya, have fun and be safe with what ever you choose.
