What gear/engine speed (rpm) are you at......
by: Judy

..when the problem occurs. First of all, I believe that an '06 GSXR1000 is fuel injected, so the below advice is possibly invalid.

Now, if you are at a fairly high engine speed (perhaps in a lower gear like 2nd) if you're at 70mph, when you try to accelerate too fast from a certain engine speed, your bike has a "rev (RPM) limited" that will kick in at certain engine speeds to prevent catastrophic engine damage. It will effectively cut power above that speed so it will feel like it's "cutting out" because it is.

Also, from the tone of your queston you sound quite inexperienced with motorcycles. If that is so, you have absolutely NO BUSINESS being on a machine that has approximately 175 hp with a 400+ lb. chassis.

If that's the case, I suggest you rethink your approach to becoming a long term motorcyclists rather than a young statistic. I see this every year and it gets uglier all the time.

shuts off
by: Lynn - FL

I agree with Julie. Probably a clogged fuel filter or carb. problem.

One of my friends had the same issue but it was her gas cap. They changed the gas tank and didn't use the correct cap so it wasn't venting properly.

Bike losing power
by: Julie

This same thing happened to me once. It was my carborator. Needed to be cleaned. If your bike starts up no problem then I wouldn't think it's your starter.
