Cool KLR and thoughts on lowering
by: Wendi

I have a KLR 650 and love it. I also have a honda Shadow RS. The RS has more power, but the KLR is like riding on a magic carpet. (unless it is really windy - but that is another issue)

When it comes to lowering the bike - i would try a lowered seat ( seargant or corbin) first. If after that it is still not low enough then move on to actually lowering the bike.

I thought i would need to lower mine at first- but after a couple of weeks of riding, I decided not .

Great Bike!
by: Kent in Fairbanks

I see nothing wrong with your pick in motorcycles. The KLR650 is a treat on the road and off as well. I do not take my 09 off and across the mountains due to the size and weight of the bike and all the bogs you run into up here. I do take off to work every day sun or rain. I sometimes forget where home is on the way after work. I also ride with a large group of fellow workers sometimes as we head south over the hogs back and down for a nice ride and burger on weekends and back again. The are all HD boys and I fit right in and keep up also. OH the only thing is I do not have to refuel after getting back from the 160 miles round trip, I can still drive a few days back and forth to work again. Look at it this way, as for all the bikes that come up here from the lower 48 in summer most are KLR650's or that type of bike and size. I was out this weekend and the snow is in spots yet and already saw my first BMW and KLR650 side by side and they were from the Half Size TX. They were a little cold and having the time of their lives!

Handling
by: Jocelyn

Hi there,

I am a new rider, and looking to get a dual purpose bike. My boyfriend is worried a KLR 650 will be too big for me (he also drives a KLR650), but I want something big enough that I'll feel comfortable on the highway. I've sat on his, and I can put my feet on the ground, but I'm thinking about putting a lowering kit on it so my feet sit flatter. I wanted some advice from some female riders. Will this bike be too tall/heavy/powerful? Btw I am about 5'7", 130 lb, and will be doing mostly back roads until I get some practice/mileage.

Thanks!
