Harley 1200L 2007

by Donna
(Central Iowa)

The first time I rode my own was a 1200 Custom, 2005, when I was 32. I bought it from the overseas military sales while I was stationed in Iraq in 2004. I walked past the sales office every day on my way to the chow hall, and finally went for it. I spent about two months on the Harley site, in 15 minute increments, since that is all we were allowed, analyzing specs, and I even measured my arms and legs, and straddled things I thought were about the same height off the ground. Since I ordered it through overseas sales, I had to buy it sight unseen. Once back to Iowa, the bike was delivered to a local dealer. I felt about an inch tall walking into the dealership alone to sit on it for the first time, and everyone was looking at me, I just put on my big girl panties and sat on it and wondered if I could even straighten out the handlebars. I could. Then I had no clue what all the buttons and gadgets were for. Anyways, I learned. I traded that one in for a 2007 1200L. I put progressive shocks on it, and forward controls. Fortunately, my legs are long enough I don't need the mids, because I thought they were icky. Everything about the bike feels like it was made for me, yet I added very few mods. It's so light and comfortable, yet with just a little throttle I can blast past cars like they are sitting still.

Thanks....

I decided to buy the bike because I'm just the kind of girl that wants to get into everything...I'm sure I was a handful in my terrible twos!! About a year before I bought my bike, I did go to ebay and look at used bikes, but even the old icky ones were $1200. Seems like a waste of money to spend a little while on a $1200 bike learning to ride, then upgrade to a new one.

One Brave Girl!

Donna,

You are indeed one brave girl! Congrats. Those were obviously some seriously awesome "big girl panties." When my first bike grows up it is going to be a Harley : ).

For serving our Country! I know there are many of us that really appreciate you. I think that is a great story, so cool, you bought your bike before even riding one!? Had you ridden dirt bikes? What gave you the itch? Well, not that important, the itch will strike when you least expect it! LOL. The Sporster is a great ride, I love mine. I got an 883 because of cost, I wasn't as brave as you, I didn't want to invest too much on my first bike, but I do wish I had gone the extra mile and got a 1200. That's ok, maybe I will just upgrade to a Dyna Low Rider, hmmmm. Ride safely!
