Upgrade

Hi, I currently own a Honda Shadow 2004 750 Aero, upgraded from a 600 (on my preliminary license). Was considering going up to the VTX1300. I'm 5'2", love the handling of the 750, however wouldn't mind a little more power. Can anyone advise on handling, seat height and weight distribution difference between the 750 and 1300.

I am just under 5' 2" and when I was looking to upgrade I sat on a used VTX 1300. It had been customized and was certainly low enough for me. I ended up with a used VStar 1100, but know I could have ridden that 1300 had I wanted it. The low center of gravity makes riding a heavy bike much easier.

My response to your inquiry would be, it doesn't matter especially about your height, as long as you can touch the ground with both feet simultaneously. What really matters is the bike's center of gravity.

I started on a Honda shadow for a few months (borrowed from a wonderful friend) then bought a Harley 883 Sportster. The center of gravity was to high and I often felt out of control when stopping, parking, or otherwise moving the bike at slow to no speed.

I now own a Harley Softtail. Twice as much bike as the sportster but with a lower center of gravity. I love it because it is much easier to maneuver.

Sit on it. Trying maneuvering it in a parking lot, how does it handle at a stop light when you are coming to a stop? Is it hard or easy to balance? Those are the questions to ask yourself.

Good Luck!
