To Get Gas, Or Not To Get Gas

by Leah
(Indiana)

Recently, my husband and I were riding (separately) to another city. We were going through another city first, I asked my husband "Do we need to get gas"? He answered "NO"! Well, guess what? I ran out of gas 2 miles outside that city. What did I learn, you ask? I NEED TO CHECK MY OWN GAS!!!! By the way, he was kind enough to walk it back into town to get gas!!

Learn Your Bike
by: Sassy2731

It is always best to learn your own bike. I always reset the trip so I can tell how many miles I have on each tank. I know I can ride 200 miles before I have to have gas, so if the next town or stop if more that I have gas then I pull in. I have learned the hubby will always turn around and come find me if I go ahead and stop. Or I will signal to him that I need gas. Your trip meter can be your best friend out on the road. Also know your own bike and how it sounds and rides. Usually no one else ride her but you so it is up to you to know if something is wrong or just not right with her. Just because you are a girl/woman doesn't mean you can't learn how to fill your tank or check your oil. You should know how to do this on any vehicle you ride/drive. My Dad taught me many years ago how to check the fluids on my vehicle for myself. You'd be surprised how many men don't even know how to check this stuff. Also learn to check your tires!

Know When To Gas Up
by: Mz Mud Putter

One of the first things I always do when I get a new bike is fill the gas tank, zero the trip meter and run the bike til I hit reserve. Then I fill up again. From that I can tell how many miles I can ride before I hit reserve, how much gas I have left in reserve and how many miles I can ride on reserve before I am empty.

Gas?
by: Karon

I learned how many miles I could go before I had to switch to my reserve tank, so every time I fill up, I reset my mileage counter ... you'll never run out if you get that one down-pat!

Gas
by: Kimberly

Definitely need to check your own fluids, not only gas but oil and any other fluids.
