Summer Jacket

by Robin
(Verona, WI)

Hi! This is my first season riding. I've got a leather jacket for spring and fall, but man, is it hot for summer riding. I feel safer with gear, so I'd rather not ride without a jacket.

Can anyone recommend a great summer riding jacket that also looks cool?

I don't ride a Harley, so I don't need the HD gear. Also, so many jackets are styled for men or make you look like a wannabe racer with giant brand-name endorsements all over. And forget the pink.

Just a cool jacket. That's all I want!

Shift
by: Steph (East Coast)

I have a Shift Catalina jacket that has a full zip-out liner and I have been using it all summer very comfortably. It's tailored so that I still have curves in it.

It is a bit racer looking but no giant endorsements: black and white, zippers on sleeve cuffs and behind to add room for your backside when you sit, inner and outer pockets. The only pink is in the small logo which I can handle. Those were the first words out of my mouth when I was picking out gear, "no pink!"

summer jacket
by: Iva

I mistakenly went for a ride with no jacket because it was 100 degrees. I laid it down in some gravel on a curve. A few bruises on my leg but a "slight" road rash on my arm and shoulder. The very next day I started looking for a summer jacket. With armor! I went to my local cycle shop and talked to the girl I bought my bike from. I ended up with the Joe Rocket Cleo 2.0 jacket. Removable rain liner, armor, pockets. I Love it!

Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! It's especially good to know the mesh armored jacket was worth it when you needed it. I do like that vavavroom jacket - pricey though!

Hope you all have a great ride today!

New Jacket
by: Robin C

VaVaVroom just recently released a new riding jacket. It is made specifically for women riders, by a woman rider, and although I have not seen it in person, I have purchased other clothing from her site and been impressed by the quality, fit and design. It's black with white stripes (no pink for me either!) and might be something you would want to check out. Check it out at VaVaVroomOnline.com

I was wearing the mesh when I had an accident; did it's job not even a scratch but I do have a patch on the jacket now, where the shoulder armor is, it wore through to the armor my patch is a leather green 4 leaf clover.

Happy with Mesh

I'm very happy with Cortech LRX Air, mesh and armor AND color choices. But, like the bike, you have to know what fits you.

Mesh Jacket
by: Lynn - Florida

I have a Joe Rocket Women's mesh jacket with removable waterproof liner and removable armor. I love this jacket because it is light blue, has reflective piping and only one small shoulder patch with the brand name. I bought it in 2008 and wish they would have continued the model as it is feminine w/o a bunch of girlie swirls, etc. Check out the close-out section for women's mesh jackets online for great prices.

Me to!!
by: Paige

I have looked for jackets as well I have found some for women but there pink and really Girly or they are extremely bulky but I have a jacket that is heavy and when it's really hot I can take the liner out of it and it is much lighter for me. I would say try and find a jacket that you can take out the liner in it when it's hot.
