me and my F800st ready to go

I planned a 2 week trip to Madawaska Maine from Waynesville NC, I traveled thru 12 states covered 3300 miles and even managed to visit with several relatives along the way. I packed my BMW on 9/5 and headed out, the morning was nice but an hour into the trip it started to drizzle a little rain, I thought well it will quit when I get out of the mountains, no such luck. I spent most of the first day in and out of downpours, but the last 2 hours I took off the rain gear and had my mesh jacket and pants on so the sun and wind helped dry me out some. I spent the night in lower PA just over the Maryland line. The next day was warm and sunny, traffic was light and I made good time got into my hometown Rehoboth MA just about 5pm my mother was happy to see me. I spent the next 2 days visiting and did a little riding, I stopped by the Twisted Throttle shop and bought a larger coocase trunk, they were great even shipped my smaller one home no extra charge. I got up sunday and headed for Maine spent the night in Enfield with my cousin. Monday bright and early started out 50 degrees but sunny the farther north I got the cloudier it got, it never did rain but stayed in the 50's all day. I was riding up rt 1 and stopped in van buren for lunch at Bubbas he had some great shrimp and corn chowder and got back on the road. I got to Madawaska and stopped at the four corners park took a few pic's and signed the book, I got out and walked around a bit seemed like a nice little town. On the way back down I stopped in Freeport and Kittery for a little retail therapy(LLBean, Gap, Orvis, Eddie Bauer)thank god I got the bigger trunk. Next Boston traffic 128s rushhour need I say more. I spent a couple more day with mom and then it was time to head home, I had fantastic weather until my last day it started raining in VA all thru TN got home wet again. Well my F800ST handled the trip with ease the perfect bike, who says you need a beast to tour, I'll take mine anytime anywhere!

Nice trip report
by: Lynn-Florida

I lived many years in SE Mass. and familiar w/Rehoboth area. My daughter & her family just moved to Dover, NH from Fall River, MA. It is my goal to someday do a road trip to visit them. For now I fly.

So glad you had a safe trip. Your BMW is so nice! Thanks for sharing!

no flat tire

Thanks for your input. I don't have the husband thing so sometimes the backup ~mind/buddy~ support is missing. I am going to work on preparing a trip at some point and your input has been helpful. I hope you have many more fun adventures ahead!

repairs
by: Lois

Carry a good plug or patch kit depending on what kind of tires you have and a co2 cannister, but I also have roadside assistance and towing on my bikes you just never know. The most important thing to have has is a charged cell phone, I have a port on my bike so I can keep mine charged where ever I am. I love traveling with my husband, but I also like going alone, we don't always want to see the same things or stopped at the same time. I also had to plan this trip a year in advance to get the time off work and save for it, my husband had to back out because he couldn't get the time off, but I knew I was going anyway.

Good for you! I wish I had that much time and money to do such a thing! Question for ya.....I suppose I have no fear of the "Solo Tour" except....if I had a problem with a tire....that lurks in my mind. What would you do or what do you have to repair?
