New Rider

by Michelle
(Ohio)

I am new to riding. I took the course and did well, bought my first bike a Honda 250 Rebel. Been practicing, now my issue that I need help or advice. My bike seems to small and I want a bigger bike. I am considering a Suzuki c50 as my upgrade. It feels way different than my 250. Is this a good bike to upgrade too, I want something I can ride for a long time, and not get bored. I am plus size and only 5'2 on a good day. I am all about safety and trying to be as careful as possible. I dont speed and I have lots of respect for the bike. Any help would be Great...

Suzuki c50
by: Michelle

I purchased a Suzuki C50. Its perfect, I am so happy that I purchased this one. I was worried about the size but actually I feel so much more confident with the bike. I feel like I made the best decision.

Size

The size of the motor is not as important as that the bike "fit" you. I started out on a Suzuki Boulevard C50 and I thought it was too big. I was so scared and shakey, but we made some adjustments and through trial and error, I became "one" with that bike.

In less than a year I have graduated to a Victory Kingpin Low. I am totally in LOVE with this bike. We are still talking about pulling the handlebars back even farther because I have a short reach, but it only affects me if we do a long ride. This cycle has a lot of power - it's a 100 cu.in. V-Twin engine and can really hum. But it fits me so well that it is a really smooth ride and not at all intimidating.

Good luck on your new ride!

Michelle, what bike did you get? Just curious. I too ride a Honda Rebel, and have thought about going bigger - but not certain about getting out of my comfort zone! Thanks.

You'll be fine...
by: Cindy

My dad started me out in April on a Honda Nighthawk 250. Before I could take my license test he decided to put me on a Honda Shadow 500. I got back on the Nighthawk and couldn't believe how small it felt. Like you, I am plus sized and 5' 3". A woman I met gave me some great advice, sit on the bike you are considering, get yourself comfortable then let go of the handlebars. If you are comfortable balancing the weight with just your legs then the bike has a good center of gravity for you and you should be fine.
