New Rider

by Adrienne
(USA)

I am brand new, 51 years old, 5'3", 125lbs...not real strong, not a weakling either. What motorcycle would you recommend I start with? Just got my license..

Thank you!

Sporty
by: Susan

My first bike has been a Harley 1200 Nightster. Nimble and easy to handle. I rode it all the way from Dallas to Cripple Creek and back just a few weeks ago. Added a gel pad to my seat and put bicycle shorts under my jeans. I've ridden my sporty for 18 months and tomorrow I'll be bringing home my Heritage.

Thank You for Four Suggestions
by: New Rider

I'm going to look at 2 Honda Rebels tomorrow night... An '02 with 1400 miles for $1750, and an '06 with 650 miles for $2550. Luckily, an experienced rider has offered to go with me.

Any additional advice about things I know nothing about (which is everything) are greatly appreciated!

Great Suggestion
by: Rene L.

Great suggestion Bridget. This forum is a great resource for that.

I would also second the suggestion to go out and sit on several bikes even after reading the posts. Needs to be a comfortable feel for you.

Congrats! Have fun and ride safe.

Congrats!

On taking a step to becoming a rider! My suggestion is to read thru all the topics under "Her-Moto Forum".

The reason being, I could say my Sporster 883 is the one, while the next Woman could say her Yamaha V Star 650 is perfect. It really varies widely with each Woman.

I think your question is the most common questions asked on this site, and there are lots of answers, all to take into consideration.
There are a lot of choices. I think it comes down to trying out a few, sit on them, feel them, what feels right to You? Getting the feedback from all the posts already on this site is a great resource.

Most all bikes can be lowered, that will help with your height issue. I'm 5'5" and I sit perfectly fine on my standard Sportster.
You will have fun reading all the previous posts written, I just read thru them today and it was priceless! Good Luck & Ride Safe Sista!
