My Inspiration, my friend, The Broad Ursula

by Cheryl R.
(Hanover Park, IL)

Born and raised a tomboy, I won my 1st Big Wheel race(against the boys) at the age of 5 and bought my 1st baseball mitt with my $5 prize. At the age of 6 I became the 1st girl to play little league baseball in my town...So it only seemed fit that I'd grow up wanting to ride motorcycles!! However, that is where my Dad drew the line. At the age of "40something" the yearning to ride still burned inside me. With the passing of my father and a recent divorce "was this the right time?" Suddenly I wasn't sure, then I met "Ursula", a carefree, full of life "chic" who rides a motorcycle....Ursula became my inspiration and my teacher. I took the MC Safety course, got my license, bought a bike and 2yrs later I am enjoying the heck out of riding and meeting soooo many other ppl and women who ride!!!!

My post isn't about me tho, It's about my friend Ursula who decided that she was going to live out her life long dream and travel the country ON HER MOTORCYCLE, BY HERSELF !!! She sold everything she owned this past winter and for months on end planned her journey and I'll be danged, she's doing it. She is such a huge inspiration in my life that I'd like to share her story with women riders everywhere. Appropriately, The B.R.O.A.D stands for "Babe Riding Out A Dream".

You can follow her at www.hdbroad.com and find her on FB at: TheBroad Ursula.

Who knows, maybe some of you will cross paths with her along the way and she will inspire you as well.

Glad u girls will follow Ursula on her journey. She's definately an inspiration to women riders as are both of you as well....I feel that any women who rides inspires another :)

I love pulling up next to a car with a little girl sitting in the passenger seat staring in wonderment & waving and I give her a smile & a wink or the thumbs up and hope that I just put the thought in her head to ride when she's old enuff :)

Ride safe girls and thanx for commenting on my post.

I love to hear those uplifting stories. Good for you and thanks for sharing about Ursula. I met two ladies yesterday who sold just about everything they owned (including their MC)so they could move from Utah to Florida. You see their riding season was only about 3 months in Utah and Florida is year round.

I have followed several ladies online during their cross country motorcycle adventures. It makes you feel like you are riding along with them. I will try to keep up with Ursula!

WOW!!!

I am so proud of both you and Ursula.

I will be following her trip for sure. I am in Reno, NV and am happy to help her out if she comes through here. We have an extra room, my husband is extremely handy with a wrench (motorcycle repairs needed). I would love to meet up and ride with her along her trip too.

I too have a dream to ride across the country; however, I do not think I would be brave enough to do it on my own. I am truly inspired by Ursula.

I hear of so many women that say their men say "you can't ride, get on the back of my bike". It breaks my heart whenever I hear this. I started riding street bikes with my husband and son when my son turned 16 and got his driver's license and motorcycle license within two weeks of each other. That was two years ago. I ride to work whenever my schedule and weather permits (usually 2-3 times a week between May and October). We also ride as much on weekends and vacations as possible. My husband (of 23 years) has been extremely supportive. We ride 2up occassionally, but mostly we ride our own ride. It is so amazingly relaxing. All the stress of life and work goes away when I get to ride.

So you ride on Fabulous Women!!!!!

But remember.....ATGATT (All The Gear, All The Time)
