Long Hair with Bangs Options

(Pittsburgh, PA)

I have long hair with bangs. I usually let my bangs grow longer right before riding season. They tend to lay better after having a helmet on when they are longer. If I am going on a short trip to a biker bar. I will wash and dry my hair, twist the back loosely and put a big scrunchy over it. Then I put my helmet on. When I get to the bar and take my hair down it usually lays nicely. Big scrunchies usually do not crease your hair and leave a bump but still protect your hair from the wind.(must be blown dry and have helmet on less than 30 to 40 minutes at a time).

On longer trips I go full biker girl...I wear my hair in two braids with a bandanna on my head. It is a cute look and the guys love it.

If you want to just wear a pony tail, I suggest you twist it loosely and put a scrunchy over it during the ride, then take the scrunchy off when you arrive.

A scarf works great.
by: Twisted

I have been using a large silky scarf lately to help keep my hair from frizzing up and rubbing against the inside of my helmet. Found it at a beauty (gasp) supply store. It's easy to get on and off, and also protects the back of my neck from sun burn. (I have melanoma) Another benefit is that it protects my ears from wind noise at high speeds.

Not a Girly Girl
by: Anonymous

Just because someone asks about keeping they're hair looking half way decent after being on a motorcycle doesn't make them a girly girl. My only means of transportation is a bike. I don't like to look like I crawled out of bed and went somewhere without even combing my hair. Which is what it looks like when I get where I'm going and take off the helmet. Its nice to get some ideas from other women having the same problem. This is a good site and it doesn't need to be ruined by women that have to have a nasty opinion about others that they don't even know.

Typical
by: Twisted

Wow, some of these comments are just plain ugly, guess it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside. So some care how they look and some don't, some ride cruisers and some sport bikes. Half helmet, full faced....everyone has different needs, so be nice.

I happen to need info on hair and makeup tips under my helmet. It doesn't matter for long trips and pleasure riding, but I ride to work often as a MA and have to look professional when I get there. Any advice on how to fix helmet head is much appreciated.

Oh AND to say that we should just delete or ignore is pretty much telling everyone that has a differing opinion has no right to post theirs. Interesting double standards actually.

I have to agree with the other gal - to say that we shouldn't read things we don't want to is crap, sorry. If we are subscribed to this site we are subscribed for motorcycle news relating to women, it isn't until we read this kind of "fashion" sense and it's already been read. And in this case commented on, rightfully so I might add.

I have been reading this thread from the start and not commented until now, but I did bring it up to all of my girlfriends and also ride, ages 40 - 60 and they all said the same thing. We are riders, not models. There are tons of other places to find fashion and hair advice. Go look for them.

I will unsubscribing now since it is clear that girly girls rule here (or think they do) and god forbid a true old school biker lady interjects with her replies.

I know one gal that has been riding on her own since the 60's and she is as gorgeous as they come, from her personality and her looks as well and she would laugh her butt off at a discussion like this related on a BIKERS site

Have fun bashing the biker chicks, you girly girls clearly are more interested in your looks or men to truly enjoy the ride. The day I start worry about my looks, my hair or what men think of me is the day they might as well bury me in a hole big enough for me and my bike

Have a good day ladies and I hope you all get a free subscription to Glamour someday.

Let's See...
by: Marsha

Let me see that I got all this together... People actually read threads that they don't care anything about? Wow, I am amazed. If a topic doesn' interest me, I don't read it! Simple as that.

If all a person has to do is bring others down, then that person doesn't need to post on a thread at all.

I don't wear a lot of make up when I ride, but I enjoy reading about "hints" to keep my hair from being a rats nest.

If you dont care about Helmet Hair - DON'T go to that forum.

LOL I also went on an awesome ride today - 200 bikes and 37 cages - to honor a fallen soldier and his family.

And guess what? I looked great, washed my hair and took off, let the wind dry it by the ride. AND without even trying I got asked for my # by 4 different gorgeous men. I didn't have to bat my eyes, show my tits, or put any lip gloss on. Guess some men appreciate the natural biker lady look eh?

Seems as though you got your panties in a bunch - I merely stated my take on it - you took off with it - when I want to know if I look good or not I look in the mirror, no need for validation outside of myself. Defensive on why you want to look good I guess.

Again - HERMOTORCYCLE.COM not lipgloss 101 (oh and FYI - I prefer carmex, less messy when I get asked for a kiss :)

Have a nice day ladies, making dinner and resting for a few hours then off to another great nite of riding, doing 130 miles tonite alone then stop for a few drinks and on home.

Well thanks for all those hard ass suggestions. I'll see which ones work for me. And now for the lip gloss. Before I go for a ride like to roll on some Nivea lip balm over my lips, Not too thick as I don't want the bugs to stick to it. Then I dab it lightly with a tissue and some talc powder so they have a sheen that is to kill for...

Do you get what I'm saying. ? Thanks for the tips but lighten up. Do we look like your girlfriends here?

I went for an awesome ride today. the weather cooperated and I rode all the way up to Sidney by the Sea, here in beautiful B.C I have a question though. I am on a 1200 Sporty and when I was shifting down it felt really "gritty" has that ever happened to anyone else?

Enjoy the ride. It's a journey. F*** the rest. Don't blow things out of proportion.

This isn't a site for lip gloss and beauty tips sweetums. Last time I looked this site is called HERMOTORCYCLE

My problem is that the all important societal bullshit is now creeping into the biker world. I don't call women that worry about their hair and lip gloss to be bikers, they are ladies that ride, there is a difference, a HUGE difference. I am a lady all the way and I look good no matter what I do but I don't obsess over it every waking moment but I am also of the biker mentality of telling someone to kiss my a** if they don't like what I look like, that one hair is out of place, that my makeup isn't perfect.

(Actually before I ever rode on my own, I rode on the back since I was a child, I lived my life surrounded by "go to hell" people, bikers, rebels, down to earth, so being a biker isn't all about riding, it's about attitude and trust me I have plenty) LOL

I happen to have 1.5 inch nails - have had them for 35 years since I grew them out, they are real, all mine and I laugh my butt off at the women who spend 100 dollars to get those nasty ugly and fake looking ones put on. Why ? Because a MAN might like them ROFL

No sweetums, not bitchy but I also am not some princess who worries about how good I look to MEN all the damn time either.

And I rest my case that some women can't truly enjoy life and riding without worrying about what MEN think of them.

Get over yourselves seriously. As I said before if you are that damn worried about what you look like then stay in the flipping CAGE - we don't care.

I guess we all have our own priorities. Mine is riding and my friends and anyone that knows me knows I look as good as I can and they know if I look windblown I don't really care and neither do they. If they do that much then ..... phhhhtt who cares?

We are bikers - not super models for gods sake. Is there not one area of our lives that we don't have to try and look like some hottie?

When I get ready to go out I wash my hair and go - by the time I get there it falls into curls and waves and I get off the bike and put my glasses on my head and that's it. The most makeup I wear is eyeliner and mascara. I am too old to care anymore what I look like or how someone else sees me. Or if I have a date then I will dry my hair and put 6 curls in it - like ringlets - then don't even brush them out - by the time I am on the bike and get to where I need to go I get off and fluff and I am done. Some gals I ride with even make the comment that I look better getting off the bike then they do getting out of the cage. I don't try at it either, don't need to waste my time nor do I waste my time.

Again, different priorities.

But I guess it's easier since I don't wear a helmet either

Some Do Care
by: Anonymous

I agree to a point, when you are riding it's not because you want others to think you look good. Having said that, I go to rallies where all the other women look good and I look like I have been drug BEHIND the bike. I need all the tips and pointers that I can get.

These posts about hair and lip gloss and makeup are getting a little boring. Seriously. If you care all that much about what you look like then stay in the cage.

And who cares what looks the guys love? Is that why we all learned to ride? Sorry but that is the LAST reason why I learned to ride.

Shouldn't we be spending time talking about riding safety, proper gear, techniques, etc?
