First Long Motorcycle Vacation

Our Trip Route

Hello ladies: Awhile back, I posted on the forum about me being nervous of taking our first long motorcycle ride through the Rockies. I ride a Suzuki Boulevard S40 and I am in my third year of riding. All of you who posted...THANK YOU! Your tips/advice really helped me. I am happy to say that we put on over 2,800 kms (1,700 miles) on the bikes that week and I experienced mountain riding, hairpins, gravel, mud roads, riding in the pouring rain (luckily only one day). It was the best vacation ever! Don't let the hills, curves, etc. scare you, know your ride, breathe easy and enjoy! That is what I did. Was I cautious on some curves, etc. YEP, but each curve, etc., I gained more confidence. Oh, and if anyone says a S40 can do long rides, etc. Yes it can! While not the greatest bike to do a trip like this with, she was a rockstar ;) But, this trip also madem me realize that it is time I upgraded my bike, so the hubby and I are going to do some online researching over the winter. Can't wait for our next trip on my new bike (whatever it may be).

Safe riding everyone and, again, thank you! I love this forum.

Bonnie

First Long Motorcycle vacation
by: BarbieButzer

Thanks for sharing - as I'm about to take my first long motorcycle vacation too. We live in Florida and are headed to Atlanta to visit my bro, then up to Gatlinburg, TN, then over into Maggie Valley-Asheville, NC area for some sightseeing. I'm a bit nervous as I've only been riding for a year this month. I can feel my confidence rise each time I ride. This site has been a tremendous help with comments and tips on riding. I look forward to giving you highlights of my trip when we return. Happy Riding!

long ride

I too started on a Suzuki Boulevard.. My was an s50 800.. Loved it.. Did my first long ride on it in June about 2300 klms or so... I was nervous about a new bike as it just seemed the perfect size for me. I came across a 2005 Harley Softail deluxe in July with only 13000klm on it and babied.. I bought it and did a 2500klm run in July through Ohio and West Virginia... Wow what a difference... Love my new bike... It is perfect for me... best upgrade ever.. FYI I have only been riding since August 4, 2012..Happy Riding
