Finding someone (or someones) to ride with

by Krista
(Chicago, IL)

I love riding my motorcycle. I am a new rider with less than a year of experience. I ride a sport bike. I am at a loss as to how to find someone to ride with. I have tried joining groups. None of it has worked out. Ideally, I would like to find one or two women to ride with - but at this point, I would love to find anyone - man or woman - who liked to ride somewhat like me. Am I destined to always ride alone? Am I really the only one out there?

I too have less than a yrs. seat time, and its hard to meet on those forums i agree ,and its more comfortable for me being not so experienced to ride with someone. The first time I dropped my bike was out alone, that really sucked.

join local forums

I personally think meetup = fail when it comes to meeting people, especially for sportbike etc. Try local sportbike forums.

If the mountain won't come to mohammed...

bring him TO the mountain! as my Mom always said....Start your OWN MeetUP. That's what I did! I've found a BUNCH of people willing to ride with all kinds of bikes. We have a ride almost every weekend, and have done trips. I had only a few hundred miles under my belt when I set it up, but if you get the right people, they won't mind your level of experience, and my guys have actually helped me a LOT. Love my group. Try it! What have you got to lose?

thanks anyway

Thanks for your help. I have already joined several groups at Meetup.com but have had no luck finding anyone to ride with. I have tried to attend several events but they have been cancelled or I have showed up but no one else has. That is what caused my frustration. Are there any other ways to find motorcycle riders (of sport bikes - not Harleys) besides meetup.com?

I guess maybe I just need to realize that this is going to be a solo activity for me. It's hard to believe that I really am the only one out there but maybe it is true.

Riding partner

Also, join all the forums you can find on your particular bike and find motorcycle websites that cater to women. The majority of both will provide you with lots of riding events, people near your, etc,.

Try http://www.meetup.com/ Find a motorcycle group in your area and join that group. You can then plan and lead a ride stating what your riding style will be and I bet you will meet a bunch of other motorcyclists that like to ride as you. Good luck.
