Finally bought a bike after taking the course in March...

by Mary

...been behind the husband since I "let" him get a bike last year and felt like I didn't want to just be a passenger any longer. He's been riding for years, makes it look so easy. I knew I wanted a Kawasaki Vulcan Classic (as I'm a 'founding member' of our local chapter) but was concerned with the size, 800, 900, etc. Well I let the husband and chapter president talk me into a 1500. It's a beautiful bike and feels good, except for the boards, how do you get used to the foot boards instead of the pegs! I admit I took it out this afternoon for the first time and (as my husband says) "gently dropped" it. Now I can't seem to get the courage to get back on...those boards are throwing me for a loop!

I would actually think the boards would be easier than pegs. It's the power and weight on yours that would throw me.

Took my class in October and finally got my Sportster 883... and also gently dropped it but won't let it scare me. Got right back up and continued around the neighborhood, and today some main roads. Like anything else, if you let fear get in the way, you won't go on...
