2008 Kawasaki KLR 650

by Tammy
(Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada)

Bought it this winter and so far I love it. The KLR is a dirt/road dual sport bike. I can ride dirt roads, trails and highway. The tank is good for 400kms. I am riding across Canada and back this July - will update and tell you all how the bike faired!

Thanks for the comments. I have a new doohickey and have booked the shop to replace it. My trip is going to be about 7500km each way, (4660 miles). The seat is in the shop right now getting some height sheared off. I am 5'8" and an inseam of about 32" so I can touch ground but not as well as I would like. Lowering the seat will give me more confidence backing up and such.

I believe Charley Boorman (A long Way Down) is doing a St. John's to Vancouver trip as well this summer. Of course he has a new, free, BMW to ride!

I am looking forward to posting pics of my adventure!

Wow, that sounds fantastic!! From what I've seen of it in pictures, Canada looks like an amazing country to ride through. My husband had a KLR 650 for a long time, and absolutely loved it - only sold it because a mate begged him to sell it to him, and he already had a DR650 which he loves just a little bit more!!!

I'm really envious - I'm too short to ride most off-road bikes, have to have one custom-lowered for me!!

Ride safe & have a great trip, I look forward to hearing all about it afterwards!

Across Canada is going to be really something! KLR650 have a good reputation for being some of the more comfortable of the dual sport bikes & if you've got lots of off road & long distance, you should be set. Just be sure to get the doohickey (cam chain tensioner) checked or replaced before you take off if it hasn't already been. Have a blast!
