Sweaty Rear-ends

by Cathy
(Spring, TX)

As a rider here in Texas, any time I ride my bike my rear end is always dripping wet from the heat/sweat. Has anybody figured out a way to avoid this problem? I'm always so embarrassed because of this and really hate to stop riding. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Thanks for all the great ideas. I've read up on the beads and they seem the way to go over the fuzzy covers. So where did you ladies get your beads from? I see so many different places, so if someone could recommend some place you've tried and liked that would be GREAT!! Thanks again....Cathy

Bead endorsement
by: Sally

I have ridden with seat beads for 4 summers now. They do make a difference, and I find them comfortable as well. I purchased them originally as a cheap alternative to an uncomfortable seat. Figured I'd give them a try before investing in a new seat, even though I was skeptical.
They made a big differene in comfort with the unexpected benefit of keeping my butt cooler and not sweaty in the summer. Have since upgraded to a larger bike, and the seat is very comfortable without the beads, but still use them in the warmer months.
I took a road trip early this summer (3,000 mi), and didn't have the beads on the 1st day, but was smart enough to throw them in the bag. Temps were unusually high (95* plus)for the time of year (June). I put them on the 2nd day and they haven't come off yet! I do take them off in the cooler months because my butt will get cold.
Just as an added FYI, I also switched last summer from a black helmet to white. Originally made the switch for added visibilty. Never considered how much cooler the white is. My husband still has a black one, and after a hot day, his head is soaked with sweat, and mine is not! I'll never use a black one in the summer again!

I have heard the same thing, seat beads. You can google them and they sell for approx. $20.00 for a motorcycle seat. I know several people that ride with them in the summer and they swear by them. But I have never tried them. Guess it is time.

seat beads

Hey!!

I haven't tried this yet, but my BF swears by it. Seat beads. Like what taxi drivers use. He calls it air conditioning for your butt. A lot of BMW dealers sell preshaped ones for motorcycle seats, or you can by seat beads from Wal-Mart and cut them down and wire the edges (so they don't fall apart) yourself, then it'll be the perfect size for your seat. He's even said he's made the mistake of keeping them on in too cool of weather and he froze his butt because they allow too much air between your seat and rear. Give it a try, I am before our big trip at the end of the month!
