My Girl - 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic

I'm a new rider just getting motorcycle license July 2010. Ironically my husband went down on his Harley two weeks before I took my class. I had paid my money and was taking the class no matter what. The first day in class on the course, I took off out of control across the course in the rain and shut down the class! Well I finished the class with the highest score of the twelve in the class- including men and got my license. Got my license on Monday and my bike on Wednesday. The bike was cheap but I love the look of a Harley without the price. It's the right height but a little heavy for me, however I've only rode about a total of 200 miles.Love to ride can't wait for warmer weather! Looking for biker chicks to ride with...

I too just got a Vulcan ...
by: Mary

...was convinced the extra weight of a 1500 wouldn't be a problem so went ahead and got a 2005 1500 classic, beautiful, husband jealous...tipped it yesterday, not because of the weight but because I'm not used to the "boards" instead of the pegs...okay, maybe a little because of the weight :) now I've psyched myself out also...hoping my courage will come back.

Vulcan
by: christine

I just got a Vulcan 500LTD from 2004 and I love it. I changed up from a Kawasaki 305LTD. The Vulcan is definitely heavier and I dumped her on my first ride (oops...) so I had to ask for help as it was way to heavy to lift for me. But I still love my bike :)

I have a 2009 900 Classic LT and I've loved Vulcan's since seeing the first ones in the 80's. Not to nit pick but they didn't make an 850. I think you probably have an 800. Which is still an awesome looking bike no matter what! ENJOY!!

Thanks for the tips. I have seen the demo on how to pick up the bike, however when I dumped it I was so upset I started to lift without putting the kick stand down. Hubby is doing good, thanks for the well wishes. I'm in ST Mary's County, Maryland.

re: Picking up your bike
by: Sandra

Have you googled it on-line? There's a detailed article on how to best do this IF you must do it alone...there's nothing wrong w/asking for a hand if you are with others!

Also H-D dealers often have "Girls Night Out" or Girls Garage Night events where they demonstrate just such techniques.

I have not tried it, yet; I was very shaken up the one time I dumped my bike (or the one time SHE dumped ME!) and my husband had her back up before I picked myself up off the ground! LOL But I'm pretty confident I could do it if I had to, using my back against the bike and legs in a squatting position with a hand on the handle bars and one near the rear to lift w/my legs.

Picking Up Bike
by: picking up bike

Hey, can you folks pick up your bikes? I have a 600 Honda Shadow VLX and I have psyched myself out not to ride it because just leaving my house it has tipped over twice because it rolled back and I wasn't ready. I am not afraid to ride it just getting out to road is not working right now for me. I am thinking of getting a 250 Rebel Honda only to get more comfortable of riding the bike. I have taken the safety course.

Nice!!
by: Sandra

I, too, have an '06 Boully 800...hopefully, you will learn to LOVE that extra weight. It helps stabilize your ride on the highway, as you don't get pushed around quite so much. Learn the bike's center of gravity with yours, and that weight will be a huge advantage! Unless your backing into parking or moving backward uphill. You'll learn NOT get get yourself into those predicaments pretty quickly. LOL

Enjoy your ride - it's a beauty!

Nice Bike!!
by: Sue

Got a nice ride there...I just got my license and bike..a HD Nightster 1200. First season of riding last summer!! I can relate to the weight of the bike ..it freaked me at first..every time I leaned into a corner was afraid I was gonna tip over...once I knew I wouldn't it got easier...just take it easy..I started with a short routine ,less traffic rides and gradually worked up to busier traffic, then highways..I feel more confident with my skills the more I ride. LOVIN' it!! Looking to get into a woman's riding club...I only have 2500miles under my belt..but it will connect me with other woman bikers..Good Luck and Enjoy!!

BTW Hope you husband wasn't hurt.....
