Women's Riding Club

by Keisha
(Brooklyn, NY)

Hi ladies, I am very interested n becoming a member of a female MC club. My whole family has actually been involved in clubs plus I love motorcycles a lot. I don't have one just yet but am working on it. Please get back to me cause this something I have wanted to do for years.

Yours truly,

Kiyluv

Women's Riding Group
by: jp

I know there are several women's riding groups out there. You can run a Google and find some.
I met some ladies from and joined the 'Motor Maids' several years ago. Kind of a funny old fashioned name because it's North America's oldest woman's group that is still organized. MM's has around a thousand members in the US and Canada.

I like MM's for the following reasons:

1. The women members are the only ones who have any say in how it's run. Guests are welcome at anything except an occasional 'ladies only' event, but guests are excluded from attendance and or voice at the yearly convention business meetings.

2. The organization has a very rich history that is treasured, maintained and shared with members as well as the public through mc museums and events.

3. They are pretty hard nosed about 'riding' to events..although members share information on who might have a trailer for break downs the word is "trailers are for boats and bikes that are broke". Members who don't ride to yearly convention don't participate in business except for the 'Gold Life' members who've been members and active riders for 50 yrs and more, and there are several of them. We have a few active riding members in their 70s and 80s.

4. Financially reasonable at $30/yr dues.

5. You are required to return a letter every year to not only keep the organization updated on each members demographics but also to offer any suggestions, opinions or observation regarding the running of the organization. The pres. personally reads each one before bringing issues to the executive board and then to the membership. Because you can lose your membership for not returning this letter, a friend once quiped: "It's the only organization I ever belonged to that wanted my opinion more than my money".

As a new rider I had the support, friendship and mentoring I needed and I now pass that along. Their web site is: www.motormaids.org. You can find out who the District Director in your area is and contact them if interested.

I am happy to answer any questions.
