Which One?

I have a '95 Yamaha Virago 535. I'm taking a 1600 mile trip, and I have the option to borrow an '08 Yamaha V-Star 1100. I've ridden the larger bike a few times. I know that larger bikes handle better on longer trips, and we'll be going through Nevada's windy highways. On the other hand, we'll be going through California's traffic as well. I've weighed pros and cons, and there seems to be plenty for both. Help! Which one should I take?

No Question

No question about it. The long trip deserves the V-Star 1100. You won't regret it.

I haven't been out west yet either!

I haven't ridden out west in the summer heat yet either, but it really couldn't be much different than this Texas Heat and Humidity! I do have a friend that has ridden out to California from Texas and he said to be sure and wear long sleeves and a face mask to keep the blowing sand off your skin going through the desert and the sun off you also. I would love to make the trip and go to Northern Cali to visit my son in the Air Force. I envy you right now. We are talking about making a long trip later this year about Sept. or Oct. can hardly wait to go. I hate riding here in Texas in the summertime. Thought about going today, but opted to wait until later today when a bit cooler. Skipped the ROT Rally in Austin this weekend also because of this heat, have made to trip before and it is really bad. Good luck on your ride and stay safe.

V-Star

Oh! Oh! I vote for the V-star 1100! I have one, and it handles like a charm. You'll love the cruise through the flatland and the handling in traffic. You will get used to the size. We are thinking about going from Denver to Las Vegas. We are used to going North, but have not traveled past the Rocky Mountains west into the summer heat. Do you think the Utah and Nevada heat is a big problem on a motorcycle, or tolerable?
