When Did You Get Hooked?

by Sunny
(Pittsburgh, PA)

I thought it would be fun to tell how/when each of us got hooked on riding.

When I was 7, my next-door-best-friend's big sister gave me a ride on the back of her bike. I was instantly hooked (and shown that, yes, women can drive their own bikes - this was 1966). *** Please don't do the math, I'll feel really old, even all the way over here ;-)

I remember when I was 10, I would play-pretend that there were 2 or 3 other bikes (but they were all couples ;-), and we were touring the country on our bikes.

Well I got hooked the year in November 08 when I had a ride on back of my boyfriends motorbike and enjoyed it so much! Was the adrenaline rush I think of being fast and exciting hehe. Then this last year being on back still, it's still the same as ever, really enjoyable, and now off to take my CBT course this month (new yr n all that) and then getting a bike and then practicing to get full licence then :D cant wait! My dream bike is a Honda Rebel 250 though at the moment, but as I cant go to 250 yet, getting a 125 but something similar to rebel style.

My Beginnings
by: Cathy G

Hi Sunny,

I grew up riding horses so I always felt comfortable throwing a leg over and riding. I remember wanting to ride a motorcycle in high school but my Mom put the damper on that right away. I left it alone as a prospect until graduate school, when I was dating a guy who rode a motorcycle. I didn't feel comfortable riding on the back without any knowledge of how to ride a bike, so my boyfriend let me sit on his bike and he taught me just enough to do circles in parking lots. Then, I took the motorcycle safety course and away I went. However, that boyfriend was too pushy and had me riding from San Francisco to Monterey every weekend before I felt entirely comfortable. Because of the ocean, that road experienced dense fog, high winds, lots of twists and turns, wild animals, fast cars... it was thrilling and yet too much. I left motorcycle riding for about 4 years but couldn't stay away, so I retook the motorcycle safety course and have been riding ever since. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it :)
