What Could I Do if I Cannot Afford a Motorcycle?

One thing I really would like to do is learn how to ride a motorcycle. I plan on getting my permit, taking a Basic Rider Course...etc. However, if I were to become licensed...I doubt I'll be able to afford a bike at this point. I have other more important expenses like school and my car...and I don't think I'll be working full time for another couple of years. So my question is...what are my options? I can look into purchasing used bikes...but I don't know if I can keep up with the maintenance. What if I rent a bike for a nice weekend every so often? Is it common for people to do that? What if I get licensed, but don't ride that often...and when I am ready to purchase a bike will I have to take another road test to prove I can ride?

You CAN Do It!!!

Hey,

I went through the training and obtained my license! A whole 6 years later, I finally purchased a $1200.00 Rebel! I did have to retrain myself but I did not have to retake the exam to prove that I could (still) ride. It did take me awhile before I could afford one, and I found 'Betty' on craigslist. Just save a bit at a time...you will find that when you want something, you really do cut down on all the 'extras.' I too worked full time, was going after my second masters and I was a single parent. If I can do it little at a time, so can you!

Affording a Bike

I think you can rent a bike but not sure where. I would just put back extra money and save for a nice used bike. If you get your license and keep them current then I think you don't have to retest. At least you don't in my state. But you may want to take a refresher course. Don't give up, just be creative. Good luck.
