Update!

by Noelle
(Freehold)

Just an update ladies...due to weather and working ungodly hours, I have not had much opportunity to get out and ride after I stalled out in a turn on my first ride on the street. Long story short, I had a new battery installed and got back to the parking lot yesterday. Thank God for my patient boyfriend who sat there watching me and finally gave me a tip when I got frustrated. I was letting out the clutch too quickly and not giving enough gas so I was lugging into the turn and continuously stalling. He showed me once while I watched and back on the horse I got! I got it the first time and just kept doing stops and starts while turning. I must have done it 20 or 30 times until I felt comfortable! I am so excited and proud that I was persistent! I am going back out on the street tonight and I will keep you posted!! Thanks for all the suggestions and support!! I just love this site! PL&H

I feel your frustration!

Noelle, I know exactly what you are going through. I feel like I am reading my own story. I too was having major trouble getting the feel of the clutch, letting it out too soon, stalling and or lugging into turns, and in my case, dumping the bike in a turn tying to get onto route 79...what a scare! Keep practicing, all of a sudden, it will click. It's a continuous learning process. Take your time and don't be hard on yourself. Still get nervous every time I go out, which hasn't been much since I got my license (Nov. 2010). I am not confident enough to ride alone and will only go with my husband, who also has been patient with me taking me to parking lots or practicing "finding the sweet spot" as he likes to say with the clutch on the driveway before each outing.

Great news!

Glad you didn't give up! Practice and a good riding buddy is the best! I hope you have a good ride this weekend.

GREAT

That is just awesome. Here in Texas the safety course is now mandatory to get a motorcycle license. I believe in it and think that every rider should take the course. You learn so much.
