Trading Up? 650 Suzuki for V-Star 650

by Anna
(Maryland)

I'd like opinions and discussions about the V-Star 650 Silverado vs the Boulevard S40. Looking at the specs the V-Star is almost 200 lbs heavier yet still 650cc. I currently have a Boulevard S40. I've had it for a year and find it light when riding in wind, sometimes it pushes me across the road. I've sat on the V-Star and it fits me but after reading other comments about size of bikes fitting women should I go for more cc's???? I rode in my first poker run this weekend and kept up with everyone, but felt like a sissy on the 650 with others riding 900's and up. Is it just my ego that needs a boost or is the V-Star a better performing bike? Thanks for your suggestions.

You can go laterally, you want regret it.

I own a 650 silverado. I have never had any problems pulling off from a light, manuevering it in traffic or anywhere else. My wife and ride two up on it. And we are well over the weight limit. I ran 85 miles and hour today from Tuscaloosa, Ala to Birmingham.keep in mind there is a barn door of a windshield on the silverado to act as a parachute. I think you should test ride one for yourself. The silverado weighs in at 583 wet. More displacement means more weight. I was told I would probably want a bigger bike when I bought this one for the same reasons you may hav heard like; need more power on the intersate, probably out grow it, etc. It's all bull. If you want to run faster than 90 mph and pay two to three grand more to step up to 950cc or above then upgrade. My advice is to drive one.

V-star Versus Suzuki S40 (Savage)
by: Anonymous

I own a savage as well, and my buddy I ride with owns a v-star 650. The v-star I find more comfortable, with maybe a little more passing power, but harder to ride around town. Also I prefer the bottom end power of the S-40, the V-star feels its weight from a dead stop take off, and the twin has to build its rpm to get some power. While the Suzuki has that pull feeling as soon as the clutch engages, torque curve and weight advantage of a large single cylinder engine. I'd really recommend test riding before spending the money.

Get a bigger engine.

Hi,

Just wanted to add my two cents. I have been riding for only about 2 years and before that had only been on the back of my boyfriend's motorcycles (and wasn't real comfortable there).

I decided to learn to ride in order to conquer my fear of riding on the back and low and behold, after completing the MSF course, completely knew I had to have my own bike.

I was worried about being able to handle the weight so bought a Blvd S40. After 6 months, I knew I had outgrown it. I now have a Blvd C50T. On the ride home from the dealer, I could not believe the difference. The bigger bike is actually easier to handle. It is much more stable and I just love it. Of course, it still takes practice if you are a newer rider to get used to a bigger and more powerful bike, but I feel so much more safe and comfortable on the C-50.

So, I would recommend not trading a 650 for a 650. My guess is that you will soon outgrow it.

Good luck deciding : )

Trading UP or OVER?
by: Sandra

One 650 for another? Just a weight difference? My first bike is a Suzuki Boulevard C50C w/touring pack (800cc & 550-600 pounds)) and I could not be happier with it. I'm comfortable, even in winds and meeting semis. My husband, who rides HD Heritage (about 400 pounds MORE bike) says mine is light-weight and hard to control...my girlfriend is starting out on a 650 V-Star, and complains it's a bit hard for her to turn.

If you can get a chance to take a ride around the block on a different bike or two, or even just sit on them, rock them back and forth, balance a bit, you may find just the bike that suits all of your needs.

Good luck!
