Too Risky?

I am looking to buy a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 650r with 10,000 miles on it for $4000. The owner said it has had general maintenance done on it but nothing done on the sprocket chain. I am a first time buyer/rider and was wondering is this to risky? Is 10,000 miles a lot for a bike and is it about to start breaking down costing me more money in repairs?

Whenever I buy a car or truck or bike, I just go to Google and type in the vehicle, year, and the word "problems". Usually a host of gripers will come up. If 10 people mention the same problem, it may be worth a further check. If it is something you can live with, mention that you know of that specific problem and ask for a better deal. Hope this helps.

It's What Kind of Miles?

No, 10k is not many miles, but was the bike taken care of? Wrecked? Oil changed regularly? I wouldn't expect to have to repair a bike with only 10k miles on it, unless its been ridden hard and put up wet.

Risky?

I do not know the answer to whether it is risky or not. But I would suggest you have a motorcycle mechanic take a look at it, or in the very least talk to a mechanic and get his or her opinion.
