My boyfriend recently brought home a harley, he bought from a guy he keeps telling me that the heads on this bike are rare, could you plese tell me anything about thunderheads its a 74xlch with thunderheads.

THUNDERHEADS

I BUILT UP A 72 XLCH SPORTSTER USING THESE THUNDERHEADS. THEY WERE VERY EXSPENSIVE AND MADE ONLY FOR SPORTSTERS. THEY WERE A FOUR VALVE HEAD CONVERSION AND HAD GREAT FLOW AND COMPRESSION. HARD TO SAY ABOUT HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER GAIN IT WAS AS THIS ONE WAS A BIG INCH MONSTER ON IT'S OWN. I LOVED THE HEADS THOUGH AND THEY LOOKED GREAT TOO.

Thunder Heads

I put a set of Thunder Heads on my '74 XLCH in 1981 after the guys that mfgd them came into the HD shop I worked at. I think they ran me $850 (may have been dealer cost) and they were well worth the $. With no other mods except for re-jetting the thing did 60 MPH in 1st gear. I have yet to see another bike with them. Mine are still on the bike, though it hasn't run in some time. Just resting in the barn waitin' to go for a spin.

Thunderheads

Saw them one time on an iron head sportster at a Harley shop. Read about them and everything I read said they were great and really did boost performance. I recall they were expensive and never put them on my sporty but wish I could have. Pretty valuable I would guess.

They were rare and I only saw them on one bike, a Harley Ironhead Sportster, back in the 70's.

I heard they really boosted performance but never heard of them on a 74.

They may be pretty valuable because they are so rare.
