Throttle Problems

by Bill Scott
(Matoaca, VA)

I bought my wife a 2003 V Star and I road it soon after we got it home and for some reason the throttle doesn't come down when I shift gears. I have noticed this each time I have ridden it. The local shop tells me they would have to clean the carbs first before knowing for sure if it's the cables which I think is the problem. HEPL!!!!!!!!!

Shops Are Full Of It!
by: Quicklimegirl

So they "want to clean the carbs" first huh?

What a bunch of scammers! Sounds to me like the slide is sticking, which normally is caused by the cable hanging up..check how it's routed, or too tight, most can be adjusted at the top of the carb where it's mounted.

Damn shops always want to screw you out of money for something that doesn't have anything to do with the problem. Most of them, especially the BIG dealers, hire the youngest, most clueless kids to work on stuff and learn as they go along. Sad.
