The most interesting place for a bug sting....

by Colleen
(Pittsburgh PA)

Ok Ladies, (and Gents)

Had a fun ride yesterday with the boys, Hubby, son and son's friend. I was holding up the last spot quite nicely.

For those of you who haven't ridden in a group setting it's a challenge to keep up with everyone and constantly have to pay attention to what you are doing as well as what others are doing. It's always a lesson learned. We were on the back end of a nice long ride about 30 miles from home and it happened.

It felt like my crotch area was on fire. I was in some serious winding roads in the Pennsylvania area near West Virginia and needed to focus on where the deer where and if I needed to downshift in a 15 MPH bend. I thought some kind of asphalt piece of ground had landed in my lap. And it WAS BURNING BAD!!!! Low and behold it was a freakin' BEE. Stung right in my crotch - HOLY MOLEY! How do I keep riding and not jump off the bike??? How do I tell the other guys that I have to pull over??? These are not highways out there- two lane winding roads.

I didn't- I kept riding... it was painful and I just kept going. Made it all the way home... my son's friend was with me at the bottom of my driveway and he said - Are you ok??? I said " I JUST GOT STUNG IN THE CROTCH!!!"

He said I could see you staring down at your lap and wandered what you were doing!!

Oh my - I wonder if leather pants would have helped? My husband said, "only you honey" My point to the boys was , I just KEPT RIDING!!!! I should get a patch that says I was stung in the crotch and I just kept riding :)

Where to wear that patch...
by: Anonymous

I think you should put it where the bee stung! Then you'll have an extra layer of protection in the future. I was stung on the wrist under the cuff of my jacket once. Just like you said, it felt like something was burning me. I think about what would happen if one hit me in the face, and that makes me grateful for full face helmets!

Kudos

Kudos for keeping up with the group and going the distance. I once had a bee fly into my glove (fingerless of course)and sting my knuckle. It was all I could do to keep riding.

Ithink I would make or ask someone to make a patch and put a picture of a bee on it and wear it with pride. Your a brave lady and I commend you for driving all the way home without stopping. Hope it never happens again. Be safe.

bee sting
by: Jeanette

My Hubby had a bee fly into his jacket and go down a sleeve stinging all the way.. that was years ago and he managed to pull over and take his jacket off so it would stop. I have to say that is something that would scare me while riding... Good for you that you were able to keep going.

Oh wow, that's hectic! Thanks so much for sharing ;)
I'm impressed you managed to carry on riding, makes me wonder what I would've done, but I sure hope I never find out!!!!

LOL even though it's not funny...

Oh My! I'm truly sorry but your story made me laugh! How horribly awful for you! You are truly a brave girl and certainly deserve a patch for that act of courage! I have never been stung by anything but am terribly afraid of all stinging insects and I do not believe I could have kept riding. KUDOS to you!
