Staying alert when long distance riding.

by M K Alpers
(Arlington, WA)

If one is feeling sleepy, in place of caffeine, it is better to stop and get off. Maybe eat a healthy snack, replace caffeine with water, walk about the area, use a restroom, and maybe lay flat for more than 5 minutes.
This is amazing for reviving the senses.
Also if one is planning a trip which requires long distance riding. Try walking some distance every day before hand. Take your motorcycle out and ride 50 to 100 miles every other day. Practice only using your left foot at stops and bike in first gear. Balance is a key issue. Teach your brain. Be in tune with your motorcycle, sort of a "zen" thing.
I am 55 years old, YIKES, and ride a 2006 FJR 1300. This bike will arrive at 40K at the end of this year's season, with 1/5 of last year unable to ride.
Life is short, must ride, love and appreciate family and friends!
