Starter Bikes

by Stephanie
(Franklin, Tennessee)

I've just completed my ms course and am currently searching for my first bike. I'm very comfortable on the Rebel 250 but it's not as beefy and loud as I'd hoped. How do I work on building my confidence so that I can ride a little larger motorcycle?

VStar 650 Classic Has it All!
by: Natalie

Prior to purchasing my VStar 650 Classic, I tried many of the smaller engine size bikes, ranging from the Rebel (250) up to the Boulevard (800). Then I saw the Yamaha VStar 650 Classic for the first time. The Classic has an abundance of shiny CHROME, especially around the handlebars & forks that the other bikes just did not have. The VStar 650 Classic won me over. My VStar 650 Classic is "raven" black with charcoal gray ghost flames on the tank. It is a beautiful, curvy, feminine bike, with great stability, due to the lower seat height. I'm 5-6, and my feet are very comfortable flat on the ground. It shifts easily and handles wonderfully. In 1 more month I will have been riding her for 2 years, and have put on more than 20,000 miles. She still runs great, and is ALWAYS DEPENDABLE. It always makes my heart flutter when I take her cover off - like falling in love with her all over again.

Try many
by: Amy

I went to all the different dealerships and sat on all differnt makes and sizes.

I am short, so touching was a major issue for me. It was down to the Honda Shadow 750, and the Yamaha V Star 650 Classic.

I went with the V Star. I felt very comfortable on it, I could touch the ground flat footed in sandals (not that I was riding with them on), it was easy to lift off the stand. It did not look like a chick bike. It is identical to the 1100, just lighter.

Good luck and happy hunting!

V-star 650 was my choice for 1st bike
by: Dianne

I think it will be a different bike for each person based on their height and weight. I did a LOT of research before I went shopping and then I sat on every bike I was considering. In the end I went for the Yamaha V-Star 650. Very low profile and extremely stable bike but it looks much bigger. Most people think it is the 1100. I am happy with my choice and have no thoughts of upgrading.
