If I go up one tooth on my rear sprocket will that take away from my top end?

going up 1 tooth in the back will increase your rpm, and require more effort and more gas on your engine to go the same speed. Was that what you were trying to do?

I felt like mine needed a 6th gear, So i put a larger one on front and it lowered the rpms. It no longer has the cheetah acceleration, but it smoother.

also changing the front is less likely to cause a change in chain size.
