Sore Seat

by Naunnie

Hey! Everyone. I thought this would be a better place to post my question since I am a beginner... passenger for now.

Does anyone have recommendations or experience with added pillion seat pads? Since my husbands bike is new, he wants to keep it stock for now. He likes his seat :), but my little spot is not so comfortable. We ride every chance we can. Sometimes we take several hour trips. He's real good about stopping about every hour, but I wish we could go a little longer.

We both have been researching gel pads and there are several available, but we are getting mixed reviews. I thought asking other women, who may have started out as passengers might be able to help. Thanks to all.

I Can Relate
by: R

I understand your pain. I have my own bike now but used to ride as a passenger and was once so sore that when we stopped for lunch, I refused to sit down and eat - instead ate my lunch standing up! On my own bike, I have a Badlander seat-looked awesome but was definitely not for long distance riding. I took my seat to a place called Alligator Bob's near Fox Lake, Illinois. He cut open the seat, cut out some of the foam, put in gel, then added some foam on top and stitched it back up. I was able to take a 6 hour ride and still able to sit for dinner when we arrived at our destination. I would think about that since it is never fun to ride if you are in pain! Good luck.

Sore Seat

Years ago my husband and I took an 8 hour long trip, one way, with his stock seat. My butt hurt so bad. I made him stop in a little town where I found a store that sold baby pillows. I rode home with that pillow under me. Needless to say, we didn't look too cool. When we got home the first thing my husband did was change the seat to better accommodate me. Lol, Just let him know that it is not comfortable and he is going to have to do something about it.

Husband Training
by: Cathy G

Hi Naunnie,

First, I would have your husband sit on your seat (the passenger seat) for an hour (kickstand down, of course) with his legs propped up just as yours would go. He could read the newspaper, make some long overdue phone calls to family members, etc. Ask him how his butt bones are holding up. Give him a 15 minute break and ask him to do it for another hour. Hmmm.... maybe he'll respect your seat situation and get you a decent passenger seat... not stock. Assert yourself and see how it goes :)

Good luck and happy trails! Once you get your own bike, you'll really be having fun!!

Cathy
