Soooooo HOT!!!

by Veronica
(Chicago)

Hey ladies,

Boy oh boy has it been hot! I am a pig in heat (Literally) when I ride. I have on jeans, the ankle boots, the helmet, two pairs of glasses (prescription and safety), a jacket, a shirt, and at least a thousand braided extensions. Any suggestions about how to keep cool as possible but still remaining safe?

Thanks much!!!

Veronica

THANKS FOR ADVICE!!!!!!!
by: veronica

I would like to thank the women who gave me advice on how to stay cool while riding 'Betty.' I did check out the armourwear (THANKS!); but in the meantime (last week), I did coincidentally, (THANKS!) purchase some huge long sleeved shirts that has helped tremendously---they do allow the air to flow through! I just have to remember to tuck the collar part into my bra straps before I ride. Oncoming traffic had a HUGE peepshow B4 I realized that my shirt bellowed open as I rode (HONK!BEEP! HONK!); exposing my leopard bra to the utmost---oh well! So thanks much and happy riding!!!

Try our Texas Heat!
by: Sassy2731

That is one reason we don't ride much in the summer months here in Texas. It is just way too hot! If we do ride it is either early morning or late evening, or even at night, but it is still too hot then. We do most of our riding in the fall, winter, and spring. I realize up in Chicago you can't ride much in the winter. When I do have to ride here in the summer months I have a light color long sleeve shirt I wear that is a little big to let the air flow through. I wear a half helmet in this heat that has some air vents on top to open. My gloves are Olympia brand that have air holes on the top side to let air in for my hands. That is about all I change do to safety concerns. Just make sure you keep water in your bag. Oh yeah I almost forgot a few years back I bought a doo rag at the ROT Rally in Austin. Here is the website to check them out. http://coolbandanas.com/index.htm It really helps to keep you cool and they have other products also.

Staying Cool
by: Anonymous

If your jacket isn't mesh, try one of those. Also instead of plain cotton t-shirts which don't breath, try "underarmour" for your shirt. These can be bought at most any of your large sports centers (ie; Academy or even Wal-Mart). Also mesh riding pants with underarmour tights.

Then take a bottle of water and squirt all over you...acts like a radiator, and don't forget drink lots and lots of water to keep your internal body cool so you can sweat.
