Softail or Ridgeback

I am going to buy a big dog soon. I am torn between the k-9 and the ridgeback, I like the ridgeback better but have never owned a bike with no rear suspension. My question is how rough of a ride would it be, is there a huge difference between the two?

My wife used to ride her big dog mastiff softail and she loved it, car accident prevents her from riding anymore, with a hardtail you feel a piece of the road, plus it's very hard for long distance rides on your back, softails handle better. her softail is for sale.
