Slayed the Dragon!!

On the Tail of the Dragon...

My 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster Superlow is amazing! My husband and I and 2 other couples took a bike trip to Tennessee in the middle of May...we had a blast! We rode from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada which took two days (rainy and dull) and came back via Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan.

We all stayed in our own cabins in Pigeon Forge and rode the curves in the Great Smoky Mountains. That led us to the Deal's Gap, Tail of the Dragon, and what a ride.

Despite some days of heavy fog and rain, we had all our appropriate gear and rode through it all. My bike maneuvered so smoothly and I felt in sync with her.

We are planning our summer vacation to the East Coast, and we look forward to see all the wonderful scenery and meet the folks out there.

See you in the curves!!

Dragon

We just rode the Dragon for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I watched some of the horrible accidents on YouTube before we went and had psyched myself out that it would be very dangerous. While I was a passenger, I found it to be fairly tame. Just ride at a safe pace, stay in your lane, hope the rider going in the opposite direction does the same and you should be fine. We rode some very tight twisty roads in Europe this summer, so this honestly was a piece of cake compared to that. When we pulled up to Deals Gap and got off the bike, the first thing out of my mouth was, "was that it?" One thing for sure, you do need some experience with riding twisty roads before trying this. Also, we went on a Tuesday, so it wasn't as crowded as a weekend would be, but there were still plenty of other bikers there.

I guess I'm just a lucky girl I live in western NC about 60 miles from the dragon and only 10 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway if your in this area don't miss either. There are also some other great rides in the area check out the book Motorcycle Adventures in the southern Appalachians by Hawk Hagebak, it has some great rides.

Tamed is more like it!!
by: Caroline

Hey Madeline,

I would do it again too...the whole trip, it was amazing scenery and all my senses were on fire!
Definitely 'tamed" would be the word to describe the action in the curves.

See you in those curves!

You Go Girl, nice. I did it last year and hope to tame that bad boy again this summer.
