Skills Test

by Rita
(Wyoming)

I am about to take my motorcycle skills test again and I was wondering if a Kawasaki 125cc is a good bike to use for the test? I have a Honda Shadow 750cc, but I could not do the u turn correctly on it. Any suggestions and on how far head to turn and where for the u- turn. I was very nervous with the test, and I am sure this added to the not passing. I have been practicing but will dothe test on the Kawasaki 125. Any suggestons for passing and body position would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

yes 125

Lots of people use 125s in Mass.
Ride it ahead of time to remember....
a little less powerful so takes longer to accelerate
and very light, stops on a dime!

It will be fun, but you may feel like you are riding a toy.

250cc ?

Check w/your state laws, but I believe you need to test on a 250 cc bike to get an M (motorcycle) endorsement on your drivers license - it is my understanding that a 125 cc would not be street legal, and would not get you an M endorsement, but an L endorsement...but not sure, especially from one state to another!

head snap

First off....the smaller bike should make your test easier...everyone likes yo borrow my 250knees dual sport for tests because it is easier to ride.

Second....the one thing that I learned that I use in my riding all the time is the "look where you want to go" rule. I use it on the street and the dirt. The key to the u-turn is to look as far through your turn as you can. Your bike will go where you look. This is one thing we practiced a lot in class. They even showed us how much it changes by telling to ride straight but look to the left....your bike will go left.

Find a big parking lot and practice you u-turn and really snap your head in the direction you want to turn. It should make a big difference.

Good luck!
