Size of Engine Guards

by Cindy
(Massachusetts)

I have been on a bike for 3 seasons now, and have dropped my Kawasaki Vulcan 500 a few times (though not this year- Yahoo). After replacing my windshield and turn blinker lens cover (broken after my last fall a year ago), someone mentioned that maybe I need wider guards. I had the standard engine guards for this bike installed before I even took it home at purchase. They appear a bit "wimpy", but I thought that the larger/wider guards were probably meant for those larger bikes.

The question: is it worth trying to pursue wider guards on this bike:

1. is it possible, and

2. is it worth it?

I don't know if they would protect anything more than the current guards.

Engine ( crash ) bars
by: Bill

Hi,
I had the same question. Just got my wife an 09 500 LTD and finally found a source for wide bars that can and will possible save you legs and feet in case of a serious crash and just dropping the bike while doing something silly. Just go here:

http://www.vulcanforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=50

Take a couple of minutes to register and you can find a TON of info on that bike.

There is a guy who has a contact in TX that provide a quality mexican made set of crash bars. He is "500 Rider". Lots of satisfied customers and mine is on the way.
Hope this helps,
Bill
