Size of Bike

by Jessie
(Yakima, Washington)

I'm new to the sportsbike scene and am unsure about what size and brand i should get. I want something sporty and fast but I'm a very small girl so I'd have to be able to hold the bike up without falling over. Can anyone help me?

Small Is Not an Issue
by: Jacee

I ride a Suzuki GSXR1000, modified for my 4' 10" size, plus special boots, and lowered (carved by upholsterer) seat. It handles and rides like a dream! Because it's been lowered, it turns like it's on rails.

Read the rest here. I have written about bikes for small women several times on this website.

Have fun and ride safe!

How small is small? I'm 5'3" and I also wanted something sporty. I ended up with a Suzuki Gladius 650cc its a naked bike and it's a little more of a standard bike. It's lightweight only 446pounds and it's easy to maneuver.

Some other smaller sporty looking bikes are:

Kawasaki Ninja 250r or 500
Kawasakid ER-6N
Yamaha FZ6R (brand new this year- fully faired very cool looking and a shorter frame)
Suzuki 750Gsx-r or 500
Suzuki Gladius 650 (also brand new this year- a naked bike)

That's just a few that I looked at. A lot of bikes can be lowered too, so check with the dealer on whether or not the bike can be lowered.

But if you're new to riding consider not only height but how heavy the bike feels to you, and how easily you can control it.

For instance, I really liked the Yamaha FZ6R but when I sat on it and compared it to the Suzuki Gladius, the Gladius felt easier for me to turn and control and was lighter feeling to me, so I ended up choosing it instead.

Also be aware that a lot of the sportier bikes have you leaning over the entire time. Be sure you like being in that position before you buy the bike. I've heard (tho don't know first hand) that being leaned over puts a lot of pressure on your wrist if you're riding for a while.

Anyway, just some comments.

Good luck looking!

Cheri (:
