Single After 20 Years

by Debbie
(UK)

Hiya, I find myself single after 20 years of marriage and I have decided that I'm gonna learn to ride a motorcycle and make some friends with whom I can go touring around Europe (something I had always longed to do in my youth but didn't pursue in the wake of marriage and children). Now at the grand age of 37, I enter the world of biking with absolutely no idea of what I'm doing, what I'm looking for, or how to go about it. I need a friend who can give me advice, take my hand and help me navigate the oceans of information and generally just help me not to feel overwhelmed by it all. Are you up for the challenge?

Getting My First Bike
by: Judith

I decided at age 58 to learn how to ride a bike. We have a trike which I do ride. I took the MSF course and have since received my motorcycle license. Haven't purchased a bike yet. Was leaning toward a Yamaha V-Star Silverado, felt good when I set on it. However, I think I might start out with a 250cc bike because just riding a bike for the course was not enough experience to ride a bigger size yet. Still waiting to purchase my ride, clearing up bills so I can purchase free and clear. No age limit on when you learn to ride, just common sense how to ride safely, IMHO.

Away you go...

The first step to riding is "wanting or the desire" to ride. So, you are well on your way.

First, find the motorcycle safety course in your area. Sign up & Take it!

Second, go to every dealership in your area and sit on every bike (big or small). You will find that you will know what what feels good to your body. Even find bikes for sale by owner and go sit on them - to find what you like.

Third, buy your own bike - don't let others tell you what you "need" or what you "should" buy. You will know it when you sit on it!

Have fun & I can't wait to hear more from you and see a pic of what you come home with...

Good luck! At the age of 38 I decided I needed a bike of my own. I knew nothing about how to ride my own bike, I had always been a passenger. But with practice I learned. You can too! Have fun, stay safe and keep riding!
