shifting kits

I have a 95 Honda vxl shadow with a front shifter kit.
I have trouble reaching the shifter. I have to physically move up on my seat to shift which can be dangerous.
I talked to a guy who worked on bikes and he said I needed to find a midline shifter kit. Does anyone know where I should look for one at?
