Shifter for Small Feet

by Kim
(Fredericksburg, VA)

Hi,

I am a smaller rider (5'2") and the only fit issue I have with my 2006 HD Sportster XL 883 Low is the distance between my left footpeg and the shifter. I have forward controls, and I am very used to riding now, but sometimes I drop the gear into neutral when my foot slips out from under the shifter because my foot is only a women's size 7. Has anyone found a good aftermarket shifter pedal that is closer in reach to the heel peg for female riders in this situation?

Thanks!

Thank You

Thanks Sue! Great idea. Anonymous - you described it perfectly. When I settle in for a longer ride, the wedge between my heel and ball rests nicely on the peg. Then when shifting, like you, I have to place my heel up on the peg to reach the shifter. I will definitely check out a pair of boards!

Shorter Shifter

I have this same issue..I am the same height as you, but wear a size 6. I have riding boots with heels, but it's awkward because when the heel sits on the peg (very comfortable), my toes don't reach to shift so when I do, I have to lift my foot over the peg...does that make sense how I'm explaining it? Well, the answer I came up with is floorboards. That way I can slide my foot up as far as I need to to reach the shifter.

I have boats for feet but my shifter linkage is still a little long for me - I have to keep my heel up on the foot peg to reach under the shifter and I am used to it by now. But I know when I first started riding the shift / clutch type of bike (I learned on an old automatic so I didn't have to shift) my ex boyfriend looked at the new bike for me and told me I could get the linkage shortened. I looked into it and there was a shop that told me they could take it apart and do the fabrications to it and weld it back shorter, but as I said, I got used to it.

Check into a modification of the linkage itself and having it shortened.
