Parking your bike
by: Laura

I read a great article about parking, it said if you are not familiar with the parking lot, take your time, even circle around or stop and look at it first, then always try to back your bike into it, makes getting out easier and safer also. I made a BIG boo-boo ONCE, lesson learned, stopped to make a phone call, pulled into a closed business, no one in sight. And pulled in nose first downhill against a concrete stop! As soon as I did it, I knew I was ******. Well, it took me at least 15 minutes to jerk my bike backwards using the brake, I am very short and could not reach flat footed. I was very tired, but learned to always take time to look before I actually pull in. That is my experience and advice for what it is worth! Ride on!

What works for me
by: Cathy G

Hello,
Here's one tip that I have. If you pull into a parking spot front first, make sure that you can back your bike out OK. I had a hard time backing my bike out of a spot one time because I completely overlooked the fact that my bike doesn't have a reverse gear, as most of them don't. It's also a good idea to carry a little flat square of metal to rest your kickstand on if you can't park on pavement. I keep one in my backpack. Go to a home improvement store (Lowes or Home Depot, for example) and look around- you'll find something that fits the bill. A surface, like grass, can seem really stable, but the kickstand can sink slowly over time. Let's see, another good thing is to park your bike on a side slant that is not so steep that you have trouble getting the back righted with both of your feet on the ground. My husband and I often share a parking spot but we have to remember to leave each other enough space that we can change the bikes' positions from resting on the kickstand to standing right up without bumping up into each other (like the mirrors or the exhaust pipes). That has happened to us and I'm sure we look like a Laurel and Hardy gig. When I'm alone, I park square in the middle of a spot, and I pull straight in so I'm not at an angle- don't want to box myself in so that I have to turn the bike hard to back it out. I hope this helps!!!!
