Drained the oil. Went to take oil filter off and it will not loosen (counter clockwise. Is there something I don't know about. I didn't think I could see any exterior casing or lock hold around it to hold it from loosing. Ist time working on this bike It,s a jap filter. A bit embarrassing,wish I had a step procedure.

Thanks for your input . The dealer put this filter on too. I slept on it and in the morning I got it off. With putting the saber higher in the air and a little bit better wrench. I tried three types of wrenches. The filter had a good dent from the strap style. Next time I change it, I will use one of those BN 303 filter that have the 17 mm bolt on the front. I will note that the jap filter didn?t really fit the F size cup wrench properly. Ride on bothers

Over torqued

John, ran into the same problem this spring. Some filters do have a locking nut on the end, but I'm assuming that would have been obvious for you to see. My problem was the dealer changed the oil last time and they over torqued the filter, or forgot to grease the ring. It was practically fused in there.

Ended up putting mine up on blocks so I could get under it and a better grip. And unless you have torque wrench with a filter attachment, you may just need to punch a screwdriver through it, and use that for leverage and a hammer. Don't know how mechanical you are, but this makes a huge oily mess, and you have to be careful not to puncture anything else. But I was too cheap (and ticked) to bring it to a mechanic with better tools.
