not starting right

i have a 2004 yamaha road star midnight star and after you have rode it awhile and stop for a break for half hour then get back on it the bike acts like it doesnt want to start then when it does it black smokes and backfires. i have no idea why unless its burning too rich of gas. if anyone knows why this problem is happening let me know

true youre right there, i ride with some victory riders and they say the same thing, im thinking of switching evrything over to fuel injection cause its a sweet bike and hate to sell it

YES THE PROBLEM IS THE CARBS THE CARBS WILL TRY TO VAPOR LOCK SOME WHAT AND COOLING OFF IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL HELP GET A LATER MODEL THAT IS FUEL INJECTED AND STAY AWAY FROM JAP STUFF BUY AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not starting right.

I can not help you with the black smoke or backfiring. But I can tell you that my Hubby and I both have 1100 VStars and they are a nightmare to start after riding for any lenght of time. I have been told it is because they have carbs. It is almost like you have to wait until the bike cools off and then they start right up it is a pain in the rear to deal with. When I am riding with my Ladys Group (they all have Harleys) I am the only one in the group that has to wait for the Bike to cool off. They all tell me the same thing (it because it has carbs). Don't know if this is true or not because I have no mechanical abilities what so ever. But I know if the bike is cool I have no problems.
