New to Riding

by Tee
(Missouri)

I'm interested in getting a bike, but first I want to take the riding course. I've been a passenger in the mid 80's but want one of my own. What is legal for highway travel and small enough that I can pick it up if I drop it?

Thanks:)

Congratulations!

Congratulations on deciding to learn to ride. It will open up a whole new area of adventure for you. Bike choice is a very personal thing. Go to the dealerships and bike shops and sit on as many as you can. You'll find the one that is right for you. Some people like to start on a 250cc, but that is up to you. A BMW G650GS is my first and only bike. I hope to keep it for the rest of my life. Ask yourself what style of bike you like. What type riding do you want to do? Racing, on and off-road, just dirt, or street riding? You want the bike to fit you physically. When you sit on the bike can you flat foot it? Can you reach the handle bars comfortably. I know you will make a smart choice. Good luck with your class; taking the class is a very smart move!
