Nervous to ride in the streets for the first time!!!

I took my MSF a couple months ago and passed. I bought my own bike and now I am nervous to take it out on the road. Is that normal? I want to ride so badly and loved riding in my MSF course but now Im nervous to ride in the streets. I got use to the shifting ( I never drove stick before) but the shifting is still new to me and Im nervous that if I shift the wrong way, etc the bike will jerk. I just want to ride a nice smooth ride...any tips or pointers? I plan on going out at like 5am on the weekends and riding when noone is on the road. What should I do about shifting. Im anticipating surprises in which I will need to react quickly and Im afraid Im might not react so quickly as I am a brand new rider.

Welcome to the world of scared newbies. We've all been there. YES!!! Nerves are very, very normal. If you don't have any friends to ride with, just do as you planned. Quiet roads and minimal traffic. You will become more proficient at just knowing when to shift. I still find myself counting gears when I'm in unfamiliar terrain, but it does become more natural with practice, I promise ;).

Just get out and ride somewhere. You will feel better once you do. And if you screw up and skip a gear, the clutch is your friend, don't panic, pull it back in an correct yourself.

Shifting is fun once you get the hang of it.

Do you have any friends that ride? If you do see if they will ride with you some until you are more comfortable riding. Then you will be more confident in yourself to ride alone. What part of Texas are you in? I'm in the gulf coast area and would welcome you to ride with us if you are in this area.
