My Battery is Not Keeping a Charge

I keep my bike on a battery charger but after I ride for a while and turn the bike off I cannot restart the bike because the battery is dead. Where should I start in order to get the bike running again? I did buy a new battery but I'm having the same problem.

Battery

It's entirely possible that the charging system is not working. Motorcycles very seldom have any kind of charge indicator, like a car does. A simple check would be to start the engine (after you have charged the battery) and let the bike idle for a few seconds. Rev up the engine to about 3,000 rpm, and see if the headlight gets brighter. If the headlight does not get brighter, the charging system is suspect.

Electrical Short

You may have a shortage in your electrical system and I strongly suggest you have a professional check it out. It is not worth saving a few dollars when there is a possibility your bike could catch fire.

Flat Battery

If your losing charge all the time, the bike is drawing power from the battery from something. I know of bikes that draw from the "Heated Hand Grips" if left on. I know at times I think Ive turned my bike off, but in fact I haven't turned the key all the way off...bugger! It might be a faulty warning light. Hope you find the culprit. Its a real bugger when you want to go for a ride only to find your bike dead!
