My 97 Katana 750 Cuts Out at 9,000 RPM

When riding my bike it completely shuts down at around 9,000 RPM, then when I shift or let off throttle, it picks back up until that approximate RPM again. I have recently replaced my battery and am wondering could my battery be to small and cause this or is it a wiring issue?

My 1990 Katana 750 does the same thing, just had the carbs cleaned, but before I had them cleaned it didn't do that. I think it's a carb issue, might be too lean or maybe to rich, look at your plugs.

It's your rev limiter, it's set that way so your engine doesnt blow up, kinda like a governor.

What you have is an RPM limiter . It's a safety mechanism within your computer. You can go to the dealer and have it reset, but beware your warranty will not be effective if you crash because of it. Think of it as a governor, so your motor doesn't blow up. May I ask a question? Why the heck are you reving your motor over 9000 RPM in the first place?

Do you happen to have a friend, male or female that mechanically inclined? Even an acquaintance you may have ridden with in the past? I don't have a clue what it might be. Did you verify the size & type battery you needed before purchasing your new one? Just suggestions ... that's all I have to offer ... not much, but can understand your concern.
