Best Bike
by: Kim

I am 5'2" and ride a Honda Shadow Spirit 750. The seat is low and it is an awesome ride! Been on many long trips and love it!

Motorcycles for Short Women
by: Linda

Not all bikes are the same height, I am still somewhat inexperienced, but when I wanted to get my first bike, I thought small. I finally sat on my husbands bike and realized that I could sit and touch the ground and I am 5'5". He has a Yamaha 1300 Midnight Venture. I then purchased a Yamaha 650 Classic. I no sooner started riding it than I wanted something larger. I feel that if you can sit comfortably and reach the ground then you should consider the bike not just the engine size. I admit I ride a trike now but it is because I had knee surgery and can not support the weight. Go sit on different bikes and get the feel, just because you have the horse power does not mean you have to use it all!! My first bike was sold with only 900 miles on it. It wasn't a waste of money but I feel that I could have done the same training on the bike I have now which is a Yamaha 1300 Royal Star Tour Deluxe. It is basically the same bike just a larger engine.

Just be very careful, use your head and buy the bike that feels right for you.

Lowering Kits
by: George Morton

You can have bikes lowered if needed.

I am 5" 4 and found the SV650 low enough o get both tip toe's down.

Small feet??
by: Caroline

Oh, and I also have small feet and found that continuous shifting, as in the city, the shifter peg was too short across the top of my foot. It was a pressure point on my big toe and because I would have to really reach and pigeon toe, this sometimes caused a cramp in my calf. My husband installed a shifter peg extender and what a difference! My new boots are also going to keep their shape :) Keep it curvy!

Super Comfy
by: Caroline

Hi, I am 5'3" and ride a HD Sportster SuperLow 2011. What a great, comfy bike. I have been on several lengthy road trips and LOVE it!!! I can put my feet flat on the ground, reach is great (I have very short arms), and the seat is pretty comfy...I will be getting a gel pad for those 5-6 hour trips.
Keep it curvy!!!

I wish I was 5'5"! I'm 5'1.5" and ride a Yamaha VStar 1100 cruiser. I can put my feet flat on the ground.

FZ6R
by: RandiZ

I'm 5'5", but have a relatively long inseam of 30-31". I'm very happy with the Yamaha FZ6R. It is a naked bike with a full fairing, so it looks like a sport bike with better ergo for longer rides. While it is fine as is, I'm looking to get a custom seat which usually elevates the height a bit. I will likely lower the bike an inch if it does.

But I agree that it is subjective. Sit on everything. Test ride whatever you can. You'll know when it is your bike.

Which is best?
by: Sandra

The one YOU feel most comfortable and in control sitting on! I don't mean to be flippant...but my bike is SO perfect for me; my girlfriend was shopping, and I begged her to come sit on mine, as I just knew she'd love it too...she doesn't, to put it mildly!

I'm 5'6", and when searching for a bike, I check bike's specs for seat height of 27" or less as a starting point, as I need the security of being able to touch both feet flat to the ground when stopped, and that height is my maximum comfort level. But higher bikes can be altered with lowering kits and seat adjustments (even reducing the thickness of the seat).

Just go shopping! :)

Matter of Opinion and Personal Preference
by: Wanda

The best motorcycle for me at 5'4" turned out to be the BMW G650GS. Sit on as many bikes as you can and see which one fits you best.
